A budapesti koncertjük előtt lehetőségünk volt egy 20 perces beszélgetésre Tomi Joutsen-nel, az AMORPHIS énekesével, és ez a beszélgetés apránként 25, majd 30 percesre nyúlt…

Ha jól számolom, ez az ötödik vagy hatodik alkalom, hogy Budapesten jársz. Hogy tetszik ez a hely, hogy tetszik a város?
Igazából a mai nap nagyon különleges volt, mert én és a basszerosunk [Olli-Pekka – a szerk] biciklit kölcsönöztünk, és először is elmentünk egy régi temetőbe… mi is a neve? Már nem emlékszem… [Fiume utcai temető – a szerk] Szóval oda mentünk, aztán elbicikliztünk egy nagy fürdőbe, ahol van kinti medence is meg ilyenek [Gellért fürdő – a szerk]. Mindezek után rossz helyszínre mentünk vissza, mert van egy másik hely is, aminek ugyanúgy Barba Negra a neve – szóval odakerekeztünk, majd jöhettünk is vissza ide [nevet]. Hát, azt hiszem, lebicikliztünk ma vagy 30 kilométert, de fantasztikus volt. Ennek a turnénak a során valahogy sokat mentünk kerékpárral – jó módja ez annak, hogy felfedezzünk egy várost.

Ezt fantasztikus hallani. Pedig az volt a benyomásom, hogy egy ilyen hosszú turné során nagyon fáradtak vagytok.

Nos, ebben a pillanatban nem. Volt egy influenzajárványunk a turné alatt, ami nagyon bosszantó… úgy egy hétig el is voltam vele, ugyan sikerült az összes koncertet végigcsinálnom, de nem volt jó érzés… most viszont újra frissnek érzem magam. Csak pihennem kellett, de most már minden rendben van… kellett pár nap, amíg felépültem. De kurvára frusztráló, mert általában próbálok sokat sétálni ahelyett, hogy csak a backstage-ben nyomogatnám a telefonomat… az elképesztően unalmas.

Ez a második alkalom, hogy kerékpározást említed – otthon biciklivel jársz?
Hát, nem annyira… tornázom és bokszolok. Pár éve ezeket a sportokat űzöm, és próbálok nagyon aktív maradni. Ez erőt ad, amikor turnézni mész – akkor nagyon jó alapokkal kell rendelkezned. Ha pár hétig nem csinálsz semmit, akkor sincs baj, ha van egy jó állóképességed. Nekem személy szerint… azt hiszem ez olyasmi, amit tényleg rendszeresen csinálnom kell, ha végig akarom tolni ezeket a koncerteket. Szükségem van arra, hogy valami fizikai tevékenységet végezzek… ha csak otthon maradok, és nem csinálok semmit, akkor gyorsan frusztrált leszek. Nem vagyok ez az ember, túl sok energiám van, vagy valami ilyesmi… talán ADHD-s vagyok. Néha képtelen vagyok csak úgy a seggemen ülni.

Ebben az esetben, úgy gondolom, hogy a Covid-időszak nem volt könnyű számodra.
Hát, nem volt az, de másrészt szerencsésnek érzem magam, mert amikor tényleg beütött a krach, szerencsém volt, hogy kaptam egy rendes munkát, így anyagilag nem voltak gondjaim. Újra dolgozni kezdtem, és még mindig dolgozom… de meglátjuk, mi lesz a jövőben – most szerencsés vagyok, hogy turnézni is tudunk.

 

 

Tehát nem az Amorphis a főállásod.

Nos, az, de élvezem a rendes munkát is… úgy értem, a turnézás helyett elég kényelmes érzés valami mást is csinálni. De már nagyon várom, hogy visszatérhessek a normális kerékvágásba és csak zenélhessek.

Idén februárban jelent meg a Halo, amely az Amorphis tizenötödik albuma. Mit szóltok a visszajelzésekhez?
Nos, szerintem pozitívak voltak, de tizenöt album után, úgy gondolom, nagyon nehéz meglepni az embereket. Jens Bogren-nel hasonló albumokat csináltunk… persze, különböznek, de hangzásilag és produkció szempontjából úgy gondolom, hogy mondhatni testvérek. És amikor elkezdtük az új albumot készíteni, természetesen az eddigi legjobbat akartuk csinálni, és azt hiszem, ez elég jól sikerült is. De láttam néhány kritikában, hogy az emberek panaszkodnak, hogy ez csak egy újabb Amorphis album… de szerintem 15 album után nagyon nehéz újra feltalálni a kereket, és úgy gondolom, hogy még mindig egy nagyszerű és erőteljes albumot csináltunk. Néhány dolog eléggé új számunkra is, de ettől még ez az Amorphis.

Mit gondolsz, voltak az Amorphisnak különböző zenei korszakai? Vannak változások az első albumtól a legutolsóig?
Nos, ez egy hosszú út volt, így természetesen sok különböző dolog történt ez alatt a hosszú idő alatt. Természetesen az egyik ok, amiért a zenei stílus változott, az az, hogy a tagok sokat változtak… és persze, amikor a 90-es években megalakult a zenekar, a srácok még elég fiatalok voltak, és a korral szerintem a zenei ízlésük is változott egy kicsit… és persze ez hallható az albumokon is. Szerintem hosszú út volt zeneileg is, mert tiszta death metal zenekarként kezdték, aztán a dallamos death metal felé fejlődtek. Miután csatlakoztam, elkezdtünk több metal elemet használni, és most, amikor a legutóbbi albumot hallgatod, azt hiszem, ez egy nagyszerű keveréke mindennek. Van benne old school metal, nyers énekszólamok, igazán progresszív elemek és nagyon finom dolgok is, és ez valami teljesen egyedi, ha engem kérdezel.

Hogyan találkoztál az Amorphis-szal? Hogyan lettél a zenekar tagja?
Nos, amikor Pasi [Koskinen] elhagyta a zenekart, természetesen tudtam róla, mert az összes finnországi rock magazint és metal magazint olvastam. De nem volt semmilyen tervem, hogy odamegyek és azt mondom, hogy na, itt vagyok, vegyetek fel, vagy ilyesmi. Tudtam, hogy próbálnak új tagot, új énekest találni. Akkoriban egy Sinisthra nevű bandában játszottam, és annak a bandának a gitárosa jó barátja Tomi Koivusaari-nak. Beszéltek telefonon, és a Sinisthra-s srác azt mondta, hogy talán ki kellene próbálnod az énekesünket, mert tudta, hogy a Sinisthra előtt egy death metal bandában énekeltem, így Tomi kíváncsi lett, és felhívott. Én meg úgy voltam vele, hogy nem is tudom, mi legyen – ez egy hatalmas dolog volt számomra, aki a zenekar rajongója vagyok. Beszéltem a feleségemmel, és ő azt mondta, hogy ha ki akarod próbálni, csak hajrá. Szóval úgy döntöttem, hogy elmegyek a próbahelyükre és nézzük meg, hogy megy… szerencsére minden elég jól ment. Négy dalt játszottunk együtt, a többiek elégedettek voltak, és aztán úgy döntöttek, hogy akkor megpróbálnák velem…

 

 

Azt hiszem, jó döntést hoztál, hogy megpróbálod.
Igen, de egyáltalán nem ez volt a célom. Élveztem a helyi zenekarokkal töltött időt, a mindennapi életet éltem a kisvárosomban egy órányi utazásra Helsinki-től.

Oké, de hogyan tudod ezeket a dolgokat menedzselni, hiszen az Amorphis tagja vagy, van egy főállásod, van családod, más zenekarjaid is működnek… szóval hogyan lehet ezt menedzselni? A te napod is csak 24 órából áll.
Nos, nem vagyunk annyira aktívak az Amorphis-szal, ha nem vagyunk éppen stúdióban vagy turnén… nem gyakorolunk, szóval akad azért itt néhány hét szünet. Persze, amikor turnézunk, vagy amikor dalokon dolgozunk, akkor az hajnaltól éjfélig megy. De ezen kívül rengeteg szabadidőm van, így jelenleg is dolgozom, de csak 30 órát egy héten… ez nem olyan sok, így akad időm arra, hogy hét közben is csináljak ezt-azt. Igyekszem minden nap vagy majdnem minden nap sportolni – ez már rutin számomra, így nem érzem annyira stresszesnek. Elkezdtem téli úszásra is járni… tavaly télen kezdtem el, és szerintem ez is egy remek dolog. Finnországban rengeteg befagyott tó van, és csak úgy megmártózol bennük… nagyon pihentető.

Az előbb említetted a zeneszerzést – hogyan születnek a dalok? Ültök és reggeltől estig jammeltek?
Általában a srácok otthon készítenek demókat: számítógép, felvétel… mindenki külön-külön otthon… aztán összegyűlünk és elkezdünk gyakorolni, én pedig elkezdem megkomponálni az énekszólamokat, és próbálom kitalálni, hogy melyik részhez kell a nyers vokál, és hova jön a tiszta ének. Néha készítünk demókat, majd elküldjük Jens Bogren-nek – ez volt a zeneírás folyamata az előző albumoknál.

Van valamilyen zenei háttered? Hogyan lettél énekes?
15 éves koromban kezdtem trombitálni – egy trash metal bandában játszottam a szülővárosomban. Aztán alakítottunk egy death metal bandát, és a 90-es évek végén elkezdtem gitározni… szóval így. Van egy Sinisthra nevű zenekarunk is, ahol csak tisztán éneklek. De nem jártam semmilyen zeneiskolába vagy ilyesmi, szóval nem tudtam sokmindent az elméletről.

 

 

Teljesen meglepődtem, mert a tiszta éneklésed teljesen fantasztikus, úgy hangzik, mint egy képzett hang.
Amióta elkezdtem hörögni – 16-17 éves korom óta –, sokat hallom a hangomat, szóval most már megszoktam. De minden alkalommal, amikor turnézni megyünk, kicsit izgulok, hogy hogyan bírja a hangom. Általában rendben van – ezen a turnén eddig rendben volt, de sosem tudhatod, mi történik, ha megbetegszel vagy ilyesmi. Ha van pár nagyon rossz éjszakád a buszon, az tönkreteheti a hangodat, és énekesként borzalmas ilyen helyzetben lenni.

Mennyire statikusak az Amorphis dalok? A dalok szerkezete, a riffek és dalszövegek időnként alakulgatnak még, vagy kőbe vannak vésve?
Hát, itt-ott talán változnak egy kicsit. De nem tudunk túl sokat változtatni a dalok szerkezetén, mert ha igazán jó minőségű fényeket akarsz a színpadon, akkor pöccre kell játszani. Szeretem, mert így magasan lehet tartani a műsor színvonalát. Néhányan talán azt gondolják, hogy ez egy kicsit unalmas, mert ha megnézik a setlistet, amit egy hete játszottunk, az ugyanaz lesz, mint a ma esti – unalmas, de ha meglepetéseket akarsz, ne nézegesd a setlistet [nevet]. Nagyszerű show-t akarunk adni, és ha ezt akarjuk, akkor egy igazán profi hangmérnökre, világosítóra és technikusokra van szükségünk, akikkel együtt dolgozunk. Én is igyekszem olyan profi lenni, amennyire csak tudok.

Szóval most is itt van veletek a hangmérnök?
Igen, van egy saját hangmérnökünk és egy fénytechnikusunk, aztán van egy dobtechnikusunk, egy gitártechnikusunk és a merch-ös srácok…

Sok olyan szabadtéri fesztivált láttam, ahol rengeteg zenekar játszott, és a hangzás alapvetően közepes vagy szar volt, ám volt néhány kivétel, mint a Cannibal Corpse és az Amorphis: ugyanazzal a hangrendszerrel kristálytiszta hangzás, ami hihetetlen volt.
Kurva jó ezt hallani, mert rengeteg energiát fektettünk abba, hogy a hangzás nagyszerű legyen. Általában évek óta van velünk egy hangmérnök, és Mikko [Rauvola – a szerk]… azt hiszem, már vagy öt éve dolgozunk vele, az előző srác pedig a zenekarban volt, nem is tudom, 12 évig vagy valami ilyesmi. Nem tudom, hogy mi a helyzet Finnországon kívül, de itthon az emberek elég gyakran hallják az Amorphis-t a rádióban, és ha eljönnek egy koncertünkre, néhányan azt mondják, hogy ez így túl tökéletesen szól, és nincs semmi kihívás ebben a koncertben. Valahol megértem, mert ha underground death metal-t játszol, és elmész egy kis helyre, ahol izzadság és füst van, tényleg harapni lehet levegőt… ezzel ellentétben ha elmész egy Amorphis koncertre, az azért nem egészen ilyen.

 

 

Visszaellenőriztem, és tény: az Amorphisnak nincs finn nyelvű dalszövege. Van valami különleges oka ennek?
Amikor fiatalok voltunk, nem volt olyan zenekar, amelyik a finn nyelvet használta volna a metálban. És valahogy az én fülemnek ez nem működik. Manapság már elég sok olyan banda van, akik finnül énekelnek, és ez már nem is olyan rettenetes, de számomra a finn szövegű metal elég furcsán hangzik. És nem mondom… lehet, hogy a jövőben lesz rá esély, hogy csinálunk egy dalt finnül, de jelenleg nem látok rá okot. Elég gyerekesnek tűnik, hogy úgy mondjam, finnül énekelni.

Tényleg?
Igen… Ha underground black metal-t csinálsz, akkor tökéletesen illik ahhoz a zenéhez. A mi esetünkben, amikor tiszta a hangzás, azt hiszem, hogy az angol valahogy sokkal kézenfekvőbbnek mondható.

Egy utolsó kérdés – kérlek, mondd el, mit jelent számodra a metál és a zene.
Nos, a metálra 12 éves koromban haraptam rá, és számomra ez a lázadás zenéje. Nekem személy szerint a punk-hoz kapcsolódik… az emberek, akik szerették a metált, mellényt és bőrdzsekit hordtak, hosszú volt a hajuk, tetoválásaik voltak… néha kicsit hiányoznak is azok az idők. Amikor elmész egy metal koncertre Finnországban, néha csak átlagos emberek vannak ott, ami persze nagyszerű… persze, ha 15 évesen átélted ezeket az érzéseket, akkor hiányzik mindez, és lehetetlen újra megtalálni… mert most már felnőtt vagy. A barátaid idősebbek, és már nem érzed ugyanazt. És valahogy úgy gondolom, hogy a metal rajongók egy része egy kicsit konzervatív; számomra ez egy lázadó zene. Metált hallgatsz, és közben nagy hazafi vagy – ez nekem valahogy nekem jön össze. Vagy utálod a melegeket – azt sem értem. Számomra a metál mindig a lázadás volt maga. És a zene…? Mindig rengeteg zenét hallgatok, még turné közben is… minden alkalommal zenét hallgatok, amikor lefekszem, és persze próbálok csemegéket találni. A turnézás egy nagyszerű időszak az évben, mert találtam pár nagyszerű dallistát, és sokat fogom hallgatni ezeket a zenekarokat. Szeretek zenélni, zenét énekelni, zenét hallgatni… nagyon nagy szerepet játszik az életemben. Nem tudom, hogy tíz év múlva mi lesz, de jelenleg el sem tudom képzelni az életemet zene nélkül.

Before their gig in Budapest, we had the chance to have a 20-minutes chat with Tomi Joutsen, singer on Amorphis, and step by step, this 20-minutes slot became 25, then 30 minutes…

I think this is your fifth or sixth time here in Budapest. How do you like this place, how do you like the city?
Actually today was really special because on this tour, me and the base player [Olli-Pekka – ed] took bicycles with us, and today we first went to the old cemetery, the big one… what’s the name? Cannot remember anymore… [Fiume street cemetery – ed] So we went there, and then we went to a big spa where they have outside pool and stuff [Gellert spa – ed]. And after that, we went to the wrong venue, because there’s another venue with the same name – so we went there, and we came back [laughing]. Well, I think we made like, I don’t know, 30 kilometres, something like this, but it was fantastic. It is nice during this tour, we did many nice tours with bikes, it’s a nice way to explore a city.

That’s absolutely fantastic to hear. I had the impression that after such a long tour you are very tired.
Well, not at this moment. There’s been a flu going on during this tour, which is really annoying of course, but now I feel alive again. I had it like for a week, and I managed to do all the shows, but it was not cool. I just had to take it easy and kind of do a bicycle tour, or anything like that. But it’s all right now… it’s going to take a couple days to recover. But it’s fucking frustrating, because usually I try to walk a lot instead of just typing in the backstage… it’s really boring.

That’s the second time you mentioned cycling, so at home you are taking bicycle?
Well, not that much. I do gym and boxing, that’s my thing. I’ll be doing that for a couple of years and I’m trying to be really active. It gives strength when you go to tour, when you have to have a really good base. If you’re not doing anything for a couple of weeks, it’s okay to just gain a good condition. For me personally as a senior, I think that’s something that I really have to do if I want to do these shows. For me personally, I need to do something physical… if I just stay home not doing anything, I get very frustrated. I’m not that person, I have too much energy or something like this… maybe I have this ADHD. For me, it’s sometimes really difficult to just stay.

In this case, I think the Covid period was not an easy thing for you.
Well, it wasn’t, but on the other hand, I feel kind of lucky because when everything started, when the shit did really hit the fan, I was lucky enough to get a real job, so I was not suffering financially too much. I started to work again, and I still working. Let’s see what happens in the future, but now I’m lucky we can do tours also.

So in this case, Amorphis is not your main occupation.
Well, it is, but I’ve been enjoying doing day job also… I mean, instead of touring, it feels quite comfortable to do something else. But I really looking forward to that I can go back to the normal and doing just music.

 

 

Halo, which was the 15th album of Amorphis, came out this February. How do you feel about the feedbacks?
Well, I think it’s been positive, but after 15 albums, I think it’s really hard to surprise people, so to speak. We’ve been doing the same kind of albums with Jens Bogren… of course they are different, but sound wise and production wise, I think they are like brothers, so to speak. And when we started to do the new album, of course, we wanted to do the best ever, and I think we managed it pretty well. But I’ve seen some reviews that people are complaining that this is just another Amorphis album… but I think after 15 albums, it’s really hard to re-invent the hot water, and I still think we did a great and powerful album. Some of the structures are quite new for us, and there are some new elements, but still, this is Amorphis.

What do you think, did Amorphis have different kind of musical periods? Are there any changes from the first album until the recent one?
Well, it’s been a long journey for 30 years, so of course, there have been lot of different things that happened during this long career. Of course, one reason why the music style has changed is that people in the band have been changed a lot… and of course, when they formed the band back in the 90’s, the guys were pretty young, and with age, I think their music taste changed a little bit and of course, you hear it from the albums. I think it’s been a long journey music-wise also because they started as a pure death metal band and it developed for something else like melodical death metal. When I joined the band, I think we started to put more metal elements to the music, and now when you are listening to the latest album, I think it’s a great mixture of everything. There is this old school metal, harsh vocal parts, really progressive elements and also really sensitive stuff, and it’s something totally different if you ask me, compared to other bands.

How did you met the Amorphis guys? How you became a member of the band?
Well, when Pasi [Koskinen] left the band, I of course knew it because I was reading all the rock magazines and metal magazines in Finland. But I didn’t have any plans to go and say that, I’m here, take me, or anything like this. I know that they are trying to find a new member, a new singer for the band. I was in a band called Sinisthra at the time, and the guitar player of that band is a good friend of Tomi Koivusaari of Amorphis. They talk on the phone and the Sinisthra guy told that maybe you should try our singer because he knew that before Sinisthra I was singing in a death metal band, so Tomi got a little bit interested and called me. And I was like, I don’t know, because that was a huge thing for me because I was the fan of the band… I talk with my wife and she said that if you want to try, go ahead. So I decided to go to the rehearsal place to try out how it goes and luckily it went pretty well. We played four songs together and the other guys were pretty satisfied and then they made a decisions that they should try with me.

 

 

I think you made a good decision to give a try.
Yeah, but that wasn’t my goal at all. I was enjoying my time with local bands my small city, not in Helsinki, like one hour travel from Helsinki, living normal life.

Okay, but how can you manage those things because you are part of Amorphis, you have a main job, you have a family, you have other bands probably running at the same time… so how it is manageable? Your day consists only of 24 hours.
Well, we are not that active with Amorphis if we are not on studio or not on tour… we don’t practice, so there might be few weeks off. Of course, when we are on tour or when we are composing or doing the albums, it’s in a 24/7 style, but outside that, I have a lot of spare time, and at this moment, I’m working but only 30 hours in a week… it’s not that much, I have a lot of time to do things during the week. I’m trying to do sports every day or almost every day, that’s just a routine for me, so it doesn’t feel that stressful. I also started to go to winter swimming… I started it last winter and I think that’s also great thing to do. In Finland, there are a lot of frozen lakes and you just dip there… it’s really relaxing.

You just mentioned composing – how the songs are born? You are sitting and jamming together in 24/7?
Normally, guys are doing demos at home, computer, recording… everyone separately at home, and then the structures are pretty much ready except vocals. I think the guys who are playing instruments, they are practicing at home… then we gather around and start to practice together, and I’ll start to compose my vocal parts and trying to figure out which part needs harsh vocals, and where the clean stuff comes. Sometimes we do arrangements together, we do demos together, and then we send them to Jens Bogren – that’s been our style with the previous albums.

Basically, do you have any kind of musical background? How did you become a singer?
I started with trump when I was 15 or something like this, and I played in a trash metal band in my home city. Then we formed a death metal band, and in the late 90’s, I started to play guitar… so that’s my thing. I also have this band called Sinisthra, where I only use clean vocals. But I haven’t been in any musical school or anything like that, so I didn’t know that much about theory or anything like that.

I’m totally surprised because your clean singing is absolutely fantastic, it sounds like a trained one.
Since when I started to use harsh vocals, when I was 16 or 17 years old, I heard my voice a lot, so now it is quite comfortable. But every time when we go a tour, I’m a little bit scared how my voice will last. Sometimes it’s all right – during this tour it’s been okay, but you never know what happens if you get sick or something. If you have a couple of really bad nights at bus, it might destroy your voice and it’s horrible to be a singer in a situation like that.

 

 

How static the Amorphis songs are? So structures and riffs and lyrics are changing slowly or they are carved in stone?
Well, they might change here and there a little bit. But when we are doing this thing with lights and stuff, everything is so professional, so we cannot change structures too much because if you want to have really great quality lights on stage, you have to play with click: that’s how it works together. I really like it, because working that way you can keep the level of the show pretty high. Some people might think it’s a little bit boring because if they check the set list we played a week ago, it’s going to be the same as tonight. It’s boring, but at the same time, if you want to have surprises, don’t look up the setlist [laughing]. At this point in our career, we want to give a great show, and if you want to do that, you have to have a professional sound guy, light guy and technicians you’re working with. As a senior, I’m trying to be as professional as I can be.

So do you have your sound engineer with you right now?
Yepp, we have our own sound guy and a light guy, and then we have a drumtech, a guitar tech and merch guys…

I have seen many open-air festivals where a lot of bands were playing and the sound was basically moderate or crap, and there were few exceptions like Cannibal Corpse and Amorphis: with the same sound system, there was absolutely an incredible difference.
That’s fucking great to hear because we have put lots of effort that the sounds are great. Usually we have a sound guy with us for many years and Mikko [Rauvola – ed]… I think we have been working with him like five years and the previous guy was in a band like, I don’t know, 12 years or something like that. I don’t know how it is outside of Finland, but in Finland, people hear Amorphis quite often from the radio, and if they come to our show, some people say that this is too safe, it sounds too perfect and there is no danger in that show. I kind of understand, because if you are into the underground death metal scene and you go to small venue and there is like sweat and fog and you can really taste the air… and if you go to see an Amorphis show in a nice venue, it’s not that.

I just checked, and I figured out that Amorphis has no lyrics in Finnish, is there any kind of special reason behind?
Well, I think the reason is that when we were young, there wasn’t any bands who was using Finnish in metal. And somehow, for my ears, it doesn’t work. Nowadays we have quite many bands who are singing in Finnish, and it’s not that bad anymore, but for me metal with Finnish lyrics sounds kind of weird. And I’m not saying… there might be some chance in the future that we can do one song or something like that, but I don’t see any reason to do that at this point. It feels kind of childish, so to speak, to use Finnish.

Really…?
Yeah… If you are doing an underground black metal, it fits perfectly with that music. In our case, when we have this clean sound and that stuff, I think somehow English just feels more comfortable.

 

 

One last and final question – please tell me what metal and what music means to you?
Well, I found metal when I was 12 or something and for me it was like a rebel music. For me, personally, it’s related to the punk scene, and people who liked metal, they were using leather jackets, they had long hair, they had tattoos… sometimes I kind of miss these days. When you go to the metal show in Finland, sometimes there are just regular people which is great of course… but of course, when you had those feelings when you were 15, you miss that feeling and it’s impossible to find it again… because you are adult now. Your friends are older and you don’t have the same kind of feeling anymore. And somehow I think some of the metal fans are a little bit conservative. For me it’s been like rebel music. And I don’t get it if you’re listening to metal and you are really patriotic, for example, because it’s somehow it doesn’t fit for me. Or if you hate gays – I don’t get it. For me, metal has been always like rebel music or rebel scene, so to speak. And music… I still listen lots of music even on tour… I listen to music every time when I go to bed and I’m trying to find interesting music. This is a great time of year, touring, because you can find some top list of the best record of 2022. I just found two great lists and I found some really interesting albums just a couple of weeks ago so I’ll be listening to those bands a lot. I like playing music, singing music, listening to music… it plays a really big part in my life. I don’t know how it will be after ten years, but at this point I cannot think of life without music.
