Pár nappal a pesti fellépésük után, a szlovákiai Gothoom fesztiválon lehetőségünk nyílott beszélgetni a 1914 énekesével-frontemberével, Dmytro Kumar-ral.

 

A múlt hét előtt volt fellépésetek Budapesten. Volt akkor időd futni egy kört, hogy megnézd a várost?

Nem, siettünk, mert későn érkeztünk a helyszínre. Bepakolás, mosdó, koncert, kicsekk és ennyi. Elmentünk a szállodába aludni, és utána már mentünk is.

 

Ez eléggé rohanás volt.

Igen. Minden nap koncertünk van, így időben el kellett indulnunk. De nem ez volt az első alkalom, hogy Budapesten voltunk, és én is jártam már párszor Budapesten magam, így láttam egy kicsit a várost, a belvárost, a legfontosabb műemlékeket és néhány múzeumot is.

 

Ez a Gothoom-os koncert az utolsó állomása a tízállomásos turnénak – mennyire vagytok fáradtak?

Kurvára fáradt vagyok. Nem csak fáradt, de kurvára fáradt. Lázas vagyok, már antibiotikumokat használok, hörghurutom is van, ezért egy csomó gyógyszert szedek, csak hogy valahogy tudjak énekelni – szóval nem egyszerű.

 

Láttam egy furgont Budapesten – tehát azzal utaztok, abban alszotok?

Nem, szállodában. Útközben a furgonban utazunk, de éjszaka szállodában alszunk. Ha utazás közben akarsz aludni, akkor nightliner kell, de nekünk nincs ilyenünk.

 

Általában öten koncerteztek és turnéztok, de most nem láttam Vitalij-t a színpadon.

Nem kapta meg időben a papírjait, ezért nem hagyhatta el Ukrajnát erre a turnéra. Remélhetőleg a következő turnén már velünk lesz.

 

Az előbb említetted, hogy külön engedélyt kellett kérni ahhoz, hogy elhagyhassátok az országot – hogyan működik ez a gyakorlatban?

Ukrajnában minden férfinak engedéllyel kell rendelkeznie ahhoz, hogy hivatalosan elhagyhassa az országot. Persze el lehet szökni, de ez nálunk nem működik. Tehát zenészként engedélyt kellett kérjünk a Kulturális Minisztériumtól, így hivatalosan is engedélyt kapunk arra, hogy Ukrajnán kívül játszhassunk, pénzt gyűjtsünk – hogy adományként gyűjtsünk egy kis pénzt a hadseregnek. Elküldtük az összes papírunkat a minisztériumba, mindent ellenőriztek, mint például minden fesztivál honlapját és a helyszíneket is, hogy valósak-e? „Igen, valósak, itt a szerződésetek, mehettek pénzt keresni, adományokat gyűjteni. Menjetek” – mondták. De ha azt hiszed, hogy az emberek túl sokat adományoznak, akkor tévedsz. Néhány száz eurót tudunk összegyűjteni koncertenként, ez persze az országtól és koncertektől is függ, de nem túl sok. Fizetjük a buszt és a sofőrt, kell vennünk némi kaját is, mert a koncertek alatt és a szállásunkon naponta csak egyszer van étkezés, szóval igen, elköltünk valamennyit, de a többit adományként visszük haza.

 

Az első albumotok 2015-ben jelent meg, a második 2018-ban, azaz minden harmadik évben. Most 2024 van, szóval számíthatunk valamilyen új anyagra tőletek?

Elkészítettük az új albumot… már készen van. Megvolt az egész koncepció, a dalszövegek, és még a számcímek listáját is elküldtem a Napalm Recordsnak. Van néhány vendégzenészünk is, de egyelőre nem akarok neveket említeni. Ám alig turnézunk – ez az első turnénk és az egyik első fellépésünk két év után –, így nincs értelme most kiadni egy új albumot. Képzeld el, mi történne, ha kiadnánk? A Napalm Records kinyomná, és újra nem tudnánk turnézni. Az összes albumunkkal ez a kibaszott helyzet volt: kiadtuk a The Blind Leading the Blindet, ami 2019-ben a világ metal albumai között a top 10-ben kapott helyet, és a Covid miatt nem volt lehetőségünk turnézni vele. Aztán a Covid alatt felvettük a Where Fear and Weapons Meet albumot, kiadtuk, és a háború miatt soha nem turnéztunk vele. Nem tudom, hogy mi ez, valami átok ül rajtunk? Szóval, nincs értelme most kiadni az új anyagot… tegyük fel, hogy idén még turnézhatunk egy kicsit, talán jövőre is, de ebben az esetben is jobb, ha a The Blind Leading-ről és a Where Fear and Weapons-ról játsszuk, mert ezekkel sosem turnéztunk. Csak attól félek, ha mégis kiadnánk egy új albumot, mi jöhetne még? UFO-támadás vagy atomháború?

 

Hogy dolgoztok? Ki miért felelős, mik a szerepek a zenekaron belül?

Az egész koncepció, a dalszövegek és az album körüli dolgok, a mögötte lévő történetek tőlem vannak. Mélyen, nagyon mélyen beleástam magam a történelmi dolgokba – háborús régész vagyok, innen a koncepció. A zene a gitárosokon, Vitalij-on és Oleksa-n múlik. Ők írják a riff-eket, de ez tőlem is függ: amikor a szöveget írom, mindig van néhány bridge- vagy dallam-ötlet a fejemben, azokkal elmegyek a próbaterembe, és elmagyarázom a srácoknak, hogy „itt akkor legyen egy bridge, itt meg ének, ide kell ez-az-amaz, ide meg egy kis blast beat”, mint egy recept. És ők mindent eköré építenek… összerakok egy néhány zenei ötletből álló receptet, és ők erre húzzák fel az egész dalt.

 

 

Minden dalszövegetek angolul van. Miért nem ukránul?

Ukrajnában senkit sem érdekel az első világháború – az elmúlt 10 évben tulajdonképpen a harmadik világháború zajlik körülöttünk. Képzeld el, 10 éve háborúban vagy Oroszországgal, és erre itt van egy faszi, aki az első világháborúról énekel – ez így egyáltalán nem működik, ez a kutyát sem érdekli Ukrajnában. Mindenki elfelejtette a történelemnek ezt a részét, hasonlóan a legtöbb posztszovjet országhoz. Tehát a fő ok az, hogy a háborúról, a háború borzalmairól szóló üzenetet széles körben terjesszük, és nem csak Ukrajnában. 25 éve zenélek… régebben sok hardcore punk bandában, stoner meg industrial zenekarban játszottam, és egyszerűen belefáradtam abba, hogy egy kis közösség számára terjesszek valami üzenetet, és Ukrajna ebből a szempontból kicsi. Nincs erős metal, hardcore, punk vagy black metal közösségünk. Van néhány fantasztikus zenekarunk, de nincs mögöttük tömeg. Itt van a Nokturnal Mortum meg egy csomó híres zenekar, és az emberek Európában tudnak róluk – de nincs olyan hatalmas metal közösség, mint Norvégiában vagy akár Németországban, kevés a kiadó, a helyi fesztivál vagy a disztró.

 

Miért gondolod, hogy érdemes egy olyan zenekart alapítani, amely az első világháborúra koncentrál?

Mert minden geopolitikai probléma, ami most van, valójában az első világháború idején kezdődött. Számomra a második világháború is csak az első világháború második fejezete. Egy csomó szar dolog – mint például a koncentrációs tábor mint ötlet – az első világháború alatt kezdődött. Az első koncentrációs tábort például az Osztrák-Magyar Monarchia építette Terezinben, az ukránoknak, ruszinoknak. A hatalmas lövészárkok, a tankok, géppuskák, vegyi fegyverek, a repülőgépek és légicsaták, mindezek a katonai dolgok valójában az első világháború alatt születtek meg mint koncepció, mint ötlet. Utána persze volt fejlődés, de ott kezdődött minden. Ez volt mindennek a kezdete. Tulajdonképpen a régi világ, a régi Európa, ahogy mi ismerjük, akkor ért véget, amikor az Osztrák-Magyar Monarchia, az Angol Birodalom, az Orosz Birodalom és az Oszmán Birodalom is elesett. Számomra ez a valamivel több mint 100 évvel ezelőtt esemény a civilizáció bukásának kezdete, az a pont, ahonnan már nincs visszaút. Például a géppuskák: a XIX. század végén Nagy-Britanniában és az Egyesült Államokban gyártották és készítették el először a géppuskákat, de az első világháború alatt a németek még halálosabbá tették. Izrael és Palesztina is tulajdonképpen ebből az időből származik, ugyanígy az összes balkáni ország. Szarajevó és történelmi lenyomata is ebből az időszakból származik. A Szovjetunió az első világháború után alakult meg, és az oroszországi forradalom is az első világháború miatt kezdődött.

 

A zenekart alapvetően az első világháborúra kihegyezve alapítottátok, de sok zenekar követett titeket. Ez egy trend?

Nem, nem hiszem. Az első világháború csak egy hétköznapi dolog, itt van az asztalon, a történelmünk része – én csak fogtam és felhasználtam, ennyi. Jelenleg talán öt olyan zenekart ismerek, akiknek az I. világháború a középpont, de ez normális, nincs az I. világháborúra copyright. Használhatod, mindenki számára elérhető. De őszintén szólva a Bolt Thrower volt az első, akik az I. világháborúról zenéltek, és ott vannak a God Dethroned zseniális albumai, a Nagy Háború trilógia [Passiondale, Under the Sign of the Iron Cross, The World Ablaze – a szerk.], a death metal történetének legnagyobb albumai a háborúról… szóval tulajdonképpen nem csináltunk semmi újat, csak fogtuk azt a történelmet, ami amúgy is adta magát.

 

De ezt sok részletre kiterjedően használod.

Igen, mert kocka vagyok, ennyi az egész. Történész kocka vagyok, ez a hobbim.

 

Magyarországról származom, és a szomszédos országban háború van, és az én generációmnak nincs tapasztalata a háborúról. Hogyan tudjuk elképzelni, mi történik most Lviv-ben vagy Kijevben?

Remélem, soha nem is kell megtapasztald. Nagyon remélem. Mi a fiatalkorunkban mit láttunk? A balkáni konfliktust – tudtunk róla. Természetesen nem jártunk a balkáni országokban a háború alatt, de sok mindent tudunk, tudunk Srebrenicáról és a tömegsírokról. Sokat tudtunk Csecsenföldről is, mert mi is ugyanúgy orosz megszállás alatt voltunk, és a hódítás minden egyes lépését nyomon követtük, hogy megtapasztaljuk – mert megértettük, hogy mi leszünk a következők. A mi generációnk tökéletesen tisztában van Irakkal, Szíriával, Afganisztánnal, egy csomó konfliktussal, és egyszerűen nem tudunk nem tudomást venni róla, ahogyan azt sokan teszik Európában. Ők csak élik a saját életüket, isszák a sörüket, teszik a saját hétköznapi dolgaikat, és leszarják a többit. De a háború valójában ott van körülöttetek, és nincs túl messze tőletek. A balkáni országok nincsenek messze Németországtól, Ausztriától vagy Budapesttől. Az emberi természet egy furcsa dolog: az emberek megpróbálnak leszarni mindent, ami nem érinti őket közvetlenül. Tehát ha tankok állnak valahol ott, akkor az oké, nincsenek még túl közel. Most nem lőnek rám, szóval még mindig rendben van. De a háború valójában a viselkedésünk és a történelmünk része, folyamatosan, és az én generációm sok háborút látott – és most Ukrajnán a sor.

 

 

A családodat vagy a barátaidat érinti a háború?

Ukrajnában nem lehet olyan családot találni, amelyet ne érintett volna a háború. Valójában ez nem lehetséges, mert minden nap bombázzák városainkat, és civilek és katonák ezreit és ezreit ölték meg. Én személyesen tizenegy barátomat temettem el. Együtt nőttünk fel, egy városban, egy zenei közösségben… a szüleim tökéletesen ismerték ezeket a srácokat.

 

Ez szörnyű.

Igen, ez szörnyű, de nem tehetek semmit. Megpróbálnak minél többet megölni.

 

Hogy reagált a hallgatóság a turné során? Képesek az emberek megérteni, hogy mi történik ott?

Ez attól függ. Münchenben például játszottunk egy nagy helyen [Backstage – a szerk.], és volt egy rendezvény, amit az ukrán ellenállás támogatására szerveztek [Eternal Flames of Ukrainian Resistance Festival – a szerk.]. Igen, hatalmas volt a támogatás, és az emberek azért gyűltek össze, mert megértették, hogy miért vagyunk ott. De például Csehországban az emberek csak egy metal koncertekre mennek, és ennyi. Két nappal ezelőtt, egy csehországi koncert után megemlítették a Facebookon a zenekar oldalát. És a hozzászólásokban… csehből fordítok: „Ezek a köcsögök már megint csak a gyűlöletet terjesztették az oroszok elleni?” És a srác, aki megemlített minket a zenekar oldalán, így válaszolt: „Valószínűleg igen, de nem hallottam tisztán, mert épp a sörömet ittam”, én meg úgy voltam vele, hogy baaaazmeg… tényleg csodálkozom, hogy a csehek elfelejtették… ezek elfelejtették 1968 Prágáját? Ne már! Vagy a budapestiek elfelejtették, hogy 1956-ban szovjet tankok álltak Budapest utcáin? Szóval ezért csodálkozom azon, hogy az én generációm, vagy a fiatalabbak miért nem foglalkoznak ezzel a szarral. Egyáltalán nem érdekli őket. „Ó, az egész a politikáról szól” – mondják. Nem, ugyan már, ez nem a politikáról szól, ez egy kibaszott háború – nem politika.

 

Háború van otthon. Mi történik, ha fegyvert kell fognod és a frontra kell menned?

Mit gondolsz? Fogom a fegyvert és megyek a kibaszott lövészárokba. Ez minden. Nincs kifogás. Azért vagyok most itt, mert gond van az egészségemmel, rákos vagyok, megműtöttek, és most nem vagyok szolgálatra alkalmas. Nem vagyok ideális a hadseregnek, de nap mint nap katonák halnak meg, és senki sem pótolja őket – így néhány hónap múlva valószínűleg már én is alkalmas leszek. Van két lábam, van két karom, és tudok fegyvert fogni.

 

Nagyon remélem, hogy ez nem fog megtörténni.

Nincs más választás. Vagy elfutsz, vagy harcolsz a szabadságodért. Mi a kettő közöttit választjuk, mert most háborús önkéntesek vagyunk. Összetarháljuk a pénzt, veszünk egy csomó autót a frontra, sisakokat, páncélokat, drónokat – így tudjuk támogatni a hadsereget. Mert Ukrajnában vagy a hadseregben vagy, vagy a hadsereget támogatod. Harmadik út nincs, mert ha Ukrajna veszít, az oroszok újra tömegsírokat fognak ásni, lásd Bucha, Mariupol és társaik.

 

Mit jelent számodra a zene és mit jelent számodra a metál?

A zene számomra maga a mindenség. Minden nap fejhallgatóval a fülemen kelek, zenét hallgatok. Hatalmas bakelitgyűjteményem van, emellett van egy high-end audio rendszerem… De ha a metal zenéről beszélünk, az csak egy kis része az életemnek, mivel nem vagyok túlságosan metal függő. Valójában punk vagyok. Ez nem vicc, a punk szcénából jöttem, rajongok az elektronikus zenéért, az indusztriális zenéért, a dungeon synth-ért. És persze a punk rock-ért. És igen, szeretem a metalt, még a black metalt is… vannak otthon Darkthrone bakeliteket, de nem vagyok egy nagy rajongó, ha a tipikus metálosokról beszélünk… szöges karvédő meg mellény felvarrókkal… hát, az nem az én világom.

A few days after their performance in Pest we had the opportunity to talk to the singer and frontman of 1914, Dmytro Kumar, at the Gothoom festival in Slovakia.

 

Before last week you had a gig at Budapest. Have you had the time to make a circle to have a look at the city?

No, it was just hurry up as we arrived late to the venue. Loading in, checking the restrooms, do the gig, log out and that’s all. We went to the hotel to sleep and we had to leave the city.

 

Oh, that was quite busy.

Yes. We had gigs every day, so we had to leave in time. But it was not the first time we were in Budapest, and I also was in Budapest a few times before on my own, so I saw a little bit the city, the city centre, also some historical stuff and a few museums.

 

This gig at Gothoom is the last stop of your 10 stops tour, so how tired you guys are in the end?

Fucking tired. Not only tired, but tired as fuck. I’m really sick with the temperature and I’m using antibiotics already, so I have a bronchitis, therefore I use a lot of drugs just to try to sing, but it’s really complicated.

 

I have seen a van in Budapest, so you are traveling with it and you are also sleeping in the van during this tour?

No, we are sleeping in hotels. We are in the van on the road, but at night, we stay in a hotel. If you sleep while traveling, it must be a nightliner, but we don’t have that.

 

Normally you are doing gigs and tours as 5 people, but now I haven’t seen Vitaliy on stage.

He did not receive his military papers in time, so he is not allowed to leave Ukraine for this tour. Hopefully, with the next tour he’ll be with us.

 

You just mentioned before that you have to apply for a special permission to be able to leave the country, but how it is working in practice?

Every male in Ukraine must have a permit to leave the country officially. Of course you can run away as a covert, but it’s not working for us. So, as a musician, we must receive permits from the Ministry of Culture, so this way we are officially allowed to play outside Ukraine, raise money and collect some money as a donation for the army. We sent all our papers to the Ministry, they checked everything like webpages of every festivals and also venues, are they real? ‘Yes, they are, so you have your contract, you can go and earn money, and you can collect donations and bring it back home. You can leave now’ – they said. If you think people donate too much, you’re wrong. We can collect some few hundreds of euros per gig, it depends on country and also depends on gigs, but it’s not too much. We pay the bus and the driver, we must buy some food because during gigs and at our accommodation we only have meal once a day, so yes, we spend this amount of money, but we bring back the rest of as a donation to Ukraine.

 

Your first album came out in 2015, second one in 2018, on a regular basis every third year, and now that’s 2024, so can we have the chance to expect any kind of new material from you guys?

We actually prepared the new album, it’s done. I had the whole concept, lyrics, and even sent the track list to Napalm Records. We have some featured guys as guests, but I don’t want to mention names. But, because we are not touring a lot, and this is our first tour and the first gigs in two years, there’s no sense to release a new album right now. Imagine, what happens if we would release a new album? Napalm Records will print it out, and we cannot play again. With all of our albums, we got this fucking weird situation: we released The Blind Leading the Blind, it got probably a top 10 position of the best metal albums in the world in 2019, and we never had the chance to tour it because of Covid. During Covid, we recorded the Where Fear and Weapons Meet album, we released it, and we never did any touring with it because of the war. I don’t know how it works, is that a magic circle? So, there’s no sense to release the new material right now… assume we are allowed touring a little bit this year, probably next year, but in this case it’s better to play The Blind Leading and Where Fear and Weapons songs because we never toured them. So, I’m just afraid if we did release a new album, what would be next? UFO attack or a nuclear war?

 

How you guys are working? Who is responsible for what, what are the roles within the band?

The whole concept, lyrics and all the stuff around the album, the stories behind it, are my part. I’m digging deep, really deep into the historical stuff. I’m a war archaeologist, so I’m always in this concepts. The music actually depends on our guitar players, Vitaliy and Oleksa. They prepare the riffs, but it always depends: when I’m writing the lyrics, I always have some bridges or melodies in my mind, and I bring it to the rehearsal room and I just explain it to the guys, like ‘here is some bridge, here are the vocals, I need here this, this and that, and I need here some blast beat’, like bullet points. And they build everything around of it… I bring a few musical bullet points together and they build actually the meat around it.

 

 

I just checked the lyrics and each songs are in English. Why not in Ukrainian?

In Ukraine no one gives a fuck about WWI, and in the last 10 years we are actually in the Third World War. Imagine, we are 10 years in a war with Russia, and there is a guy who’s singing about WWI – that’s not working at all, that’s not an interesting stuff in Ukraine. Everyone forgot about this part of history similarly to most of post-Soviet Union countries. So, the main reason was to spread the message about this war, about the horror of this war to a large auditory and not only in Ukraine. I’m playing music for 25 years… I used to play in a lot of hardcore punk bands, stoner bands, industrial bands, and I’m just tired to spread the message for a small community, and Ukraine is a small one. We don’t have a huge and powerful metal or hardcore punk or black metal community. We have some awesome bands, but not a community behind of them. We have Nokturnal Mortum or a lot of famous bands and people in Europe know about them. But we don’t have a huge community like in Norway or even in Germany, we don’t have a lot of labels, local festivals or distros.

 

Why you think it was so important to start a band focusing on WWI?

Because all geopolitical troubles what we have right now, started actually in the time of WWI. Even WWII, for me, is just the second chapter of WWI. A lot of shitty stuff like concentration camps started during WWI. The first concentration camp was built by the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in Terezin, and they built it for Ukrainians, for Rusyns. All these huge trenches, tanks, machine guns, chemical weapons, airplanes and air battles, all these military stuffs have actually been built as a concept, as an idea, during WWI. They got some progress by the time, but they started there. That was the beginning of everything. Actually the old world, old Europe, as we know it, was just done, when the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the English Empire, the Russian Empire and also the Ottoman Empire fell. For me it is, a little bit more than 100 years ago, the beginning of the fall of the civilization, the point of no return. For example, machine guns: they produced and first prepared the machine guns in Great Britain and in the United States in the late 19th century, but during WWI, Germans made it more deadly as a crossfire. Israel and Palestine comes actually from that time, same with all Balkan countries. Sarajevo, the Ottoman Empire with Bulgarians, are actually from that period. Soviet Union started after the First World War, and the revolution in Russia started because of WWI.

 

You started this band basically based on WWI, but there are a lot of bands following you. Have you made a trend?

No, I don’t think so. WWI is just a common thing, it’s just here on the table and it’s a part of our history – I just took it and used it, and that’s all. Yes, we started it as the main thematic of the band, and right now I know probably five bands who try to think only about WWI, but it’s normal, we have no parental advisory for our rights on the WWI. You can use it, it’s open for everyone. But honestly, Bolt Thrower were the first ones about WWI, and also brilliant albums from God Dethroned, the trilogy of the Great War [Passiondale, Under the Sign of the Iron Cross, The World Ablaze – the ed.], one of the greatest albums in the death metal history about war, actually… so we did not make anything new, we just took the history which was on the table.

 

But you are doing it with a lot of details.

Yeah, because I’m a nerd, that’s all. I’m a history nerd, that’s my hobby.

 

I’m from Hungary, and there is a war in the country next to us, and my generation has no experience with war. How can we imagine what’s happening in Lviv or in Kiev now?

I hope you will never get this experience. I really hope. But in the time of our youth, what did we see? The Balkan conflict – we know about it. Of course, we did not visit the Balkan countries during the war, but we know a lot, we know about Srebrenica and about the mass graves. We know a lot about Chechnya because we were under the same Russian occupation, and we just notice every step of the conquest for our experience because we understood we’ll be the next. Our generation knows perfectly about Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, a lot of conflicts, and we just can’t ignore it as a lot of people in Europe do. They just live their own life, have their own beer, their own mundane things, and don’t give a fuck about it. But war is actually around you and not too far from you. Balkan countries are not too far from Germany or Austria or Budapest. The human nature is a weird thing and people try not to give a fuck about everything which does not affect them directly. So if tanks stand somewhere there, still OK, they are not too close. They are not shooting right now at me, so still OK. But the war is actually part of our behaviour and part of our history, all the time. My generation saw a lot of wars and now, that’s Ukraine’s turn.

 

 

Is your family or are your friends affected by the war?

You cannot find any families in Ukraine which is not affected by the war. Actually it’s not possible because they are bombing our cities every day and they killed thousands and thousands of civilians and soldiers. I personally buried 11 friends of mines. We grew up together in one city, in one musical community… my parents perfectly knew those guys.

 

It’s terrible.

Yes, it’s terrible, but I cannot do nothing. They’re trying to kill as much as possible.

 

How do you feel during the tour? Are people able to understand what’s happening there? Are they supportive?

You know, it depends. For example, in Munich, we played at a big venue [Backstage – the ed.] and there was an event organized support Ukrainian resistance [Eternal Flames of Ukrainian Resistance Festival – the ed.]. Yes, it was a huge support, and people actually gathered because they understood why we are there. But, for example, like in the Czech Republic, people just go to the metal gigs, and that’s all. Two days ago, after a gig in the Czech Republic, they mentioned our band page on Facebook. And in the comments… I translate from Czech: ‘Did those fuckers spread their hate against all Russians again?’ And the guy who mentioned us on the band page responded like ‘Probably yes, but I didn’t hear it clearly, because, you know, I just had my beer’, and I was like fuck… I really wonder why Czechs forgot about it. Did they forgot about Prague 1968? Come on! Or the people in Budapest forgot about the Soviet tanks on the streets of Budapest in 1956? So that’s why I really wonder why my generation, or younger people, don’t even give a fuck about it. They’re not interested at all. Oh, it’s all about politics. No, come on, it’s not about politics, it’s a fucking war – not politics.

 

There is a war in your country. What happens if you have to take a gun and go to the front line?

What do you think, what would happen? I will take my gun and go to the fucking trenches. That’s all. No excuse. I’m here because I have a problem with my health, I have a cancer and I have a surgery because of cancer and right now I’m not fit for the service. I’m not the guy in the best condition for the army, but people are dying there and no-one is replacing them, so in a few months probably I can be fit for the service. I have two legs, I have two arms and I can hold a gun.

 

I really hope that will not happen.

You don’t have any choice. You can either run away or fight for your freedom. That’s all. We choose something in-between because right now we are acting like war volunteers. We grab the money, we bought a lot of cars for the front, helmets, armours, drones, so we buy it and this is how we can support the army. Because in Ukraine you can be either in the army or you can support the army. There is no third way because if Ukraine lose, Russians will make new mass graves like Bucha, Mariupol and other stuff.

 

What music means to you all in all and what metal means to you?

Music for me is everything. I just wake up with my headphones every day and listen to some music. I have a huge vinyl collection, also a high-end system for CD’s, tapes, a lot of vinyl… I’m a vinyl collector and tape collector, so I built a huge setup with this. But if we talk about metal music, it’s just a small part of my life as I’m not into metal too much. Actually, I’m a punk. It’s not a joke, I came from the punk scene and I’m a fan of electronic music, industrial music, noise music, also dungeon synth music. And of course punk rock, and yes, I love metal, I even love black metal… Darkthrone stuffs, I collected Darkthrone vinyls, but I’m not a huge fan… if we talk about typical metalheads with all these nails and back patch… no, it’s not my thing.
